The most common type of computer keyboard is called the QWERTY keyboard.

 Can you see why?

The longest common English word that can be typed with only the left hand (when using proper home row hands, of course!) is "stewardesses."

The longest common English word that can be typed using only the top row of letters is "typewriter."

The keys on a QWERTY keyboard were not arranged for the fastest typing, but rather to slow down typing speed.  On old typewriters, the keys would jam if typed too quickly.

All 1st through 6th grade classes visit the computer lab for 40 minutes once a week.   For a weekly class schedule, click here!

Computer Lab Rules

Come into the lab quickly and quietly. We don't have a lot of time, so we need to get started.

Keep all food, drinks, and personal items away from the computer.

Work only with clean hands.

No emailing or checking email  on a school computer.

Treat all the equipment nicely so it will last for a long time.

Do not change any computer settings without permission.

Print only with permission.

Always save your files to your network folder, not your computer's hard drive.

Never type on someone else's keyboard or click their mouse for them. They won't remember how to do it unless they do it themselves! Help with your words, not with your hands.

Leave your computer ready for the next person.  That means:
  • log off
  • hang up your headphones
  • push in your chair
  • tidy up your work station
